AI-Native EHR Development
We build electronic health record and practice-management systems around AI from the first line of code — on the Cannect™ platform, with the Canis AI Wolfware models inside — for practices, specialty groups, and health-technology companies that want an AI-native core instead of a bolted-on plug-in.
What AI-Native Means When You Build It
An AI-native EHR is architected so the models read the chart’s live data model rather than an export, run under the same access controls and audit trail as the record, and act inside the workflow. That is a set of engineering decisions, not a feature list, and it is the difference between AI a clinician trusts and AI a compliance officer blocks.
Every system we build holds five properties: the AI works on the live record; every suggestion is logged with the model that produced it; a human approves irreversible clinical and financial actions; protected health information never leaves the perimeter; and the system keeps working when the network does not. Our explainer on what makes an EHR AI-native goes deeper on each.
What We Build
Cannect™ Deployment and Configuration
Specialty templates, payer rules, scheduling, and encounter workflows configured for your practice or group, with the zero-search chart open and AI note completion from day one.
Custom Modules on the Platform
Specialty workflows, registries, forms, reporting, and patient outreach built on Cannect’s data model, so new capability inherits the audit trail and the perimeter instead of bypassing them.
Integration
FHIR R4 and SMART on FHIR for clinical exchange; 270/271 eligibility, 837 claims, and 835 remittance for the revenue cycle; VoIP and communications through the lab’s own platform.
Wolfware Models Inside Your Workflow
Physician assistance, documentation management, and RCM operations models from the Canis AI family, each suggestion logged to a decision record and approved by your people.
Migration From a Legacy EHR
Chart, schedule, and balance migration from your current system over open standards, validated by clinicians and billers before cutover, with a documented downtime plan.
Co-Development and White-Label
For health-technology companies that need an AI-native core: the Cannect platform under your product, built with the lab. Early access; scoped case by case.
How an Engagement Runs
- Discovery. Your specialty, payer mix, workflows, integrations, and the measurements that matter. Output: a written plan with a committed schedule.
- Architecture. Data model, integration map, where AI touches the workflow, and where the perimeter sits. Output: documentation your compliance officer can review before a line is written.
- AI-accelerated build. The lab builds with the same AI acceleration it sells, which is why you see working software weekly. Every AI-generated change is reviewed by an engineer, and every model recommendation inside the product is logged, exactly as it will be in production.
- Validation. Your clinicians and billers work real scenarios in the system before cutover. Decision records from the validation period are reviewed together.
- Deployment and support. Training, a downtime drill, and monthly reporting on the numbers you chose in discovery: denial rate, days in A/R, time to critical information, clicks per task.
Why Build With a Lab That Also Runs Billing
Most EHR vendors have never submitted a claim. We submit them every day. CCL Billing, our operating company, runs on Cannect and the Wolfware models, which means the system you receive has been exercised on real payer behavior, including the New York payer landscape, before you rely on it. Our billing clients have seen revenue increases around 20% and A/R reductions around 35%; the software exists because those results depend on claims being right before they leave the office.
It also means the people who build your system can read your remittances. When a workflow decision would cost you money six weeks later, we know, because it would cost us too.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you build on Cannect or from scratch?
On Cannect™ whenever we can, because the AI-native architecture, the decision records, the FHIR interfaces, and the downtime mode already exist and have been proven in CCL Billing’s own operations. Custom modules, specialty workflows, and integrations are built on top of that platform. Greenfield builds for health-technology companies are scoped case by case.
How long does an AI-native EHR implementation take?
It depends on specialty, payer mix, integrations, and how much history has to migrate, so we do not quote a timeline before discovery. Discovery is short and produces a written plan with a committed schedule. Because we build with AI acceleration and ship working software weekly, you see the system early rather than at the end.
Can you integrate with the systems we already use?
Yes. Cannect speaks FHIR R4 and SMART on FHIR for clinical exchange and runs the revenue cycle on 270/271 eligibility, 837 claim, and 835 remittance transactions. Clearinghouse, laboratory, and communications connections are part of the architecture phase, and we tell you in writing what will connect natively and what will not.
Who owns the data and the software?
Your patient data is yours, exportable over open standards at any time. The Cannect platform remains the lab’s; custom modules built for you are scoped in the agreement. We do not use your data to train models without written authorization, and never with identifiable information.
Is the work HIPAA-compliant, and do you sign a business associate agreement?
Yes to both. We sign a BAA before any protected health information is involved. The platform runs role-based access, consent management, break-glass access, PHI redaction, and a full audit trail, and the models run behind per-practice credentials inside the security perimeter.
Tell Us What You Are Building
A practice replacing its EHR, a group that needs specialty workflows nobody sells, or a health-technology company that needs an AI-native core: the conversation starts the same way. Tell us the specialty, the systems you have, and the problem you are trying to solve.
